Understanding The Various Stages Of Gum Disease

Posted on 11/7/2022 by Northstar Dental
Understanding The Various Stages Of Gum DiseaseGums play an essential role in our oral health, and it's necessary to know and understand the signs and symptoms of gum disease to prevent extreme damage. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an abnormality that causes inflammation of the tissues and bones surrounding and supporting the teeth. Gum disease occurs from mild to severe stages, including gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is a stage of gum disease that causes several symptoms, such as swelling, redness, and bleeding of the gum tissues. If the gum disease is left unattended at this stage, it progresses to serious oral health.

Mild Periodontitis

When gingivitis advances, it becomes a severe phase known as mild periodontitis. The disease affects the gingival tissues and the adjacent bones supporting the teeth. It is not adequate to use only brushing to treat this stage. Additional dental treatments, such as surgical procedures, are necessary to prevent it from advancing further. Also, good dental treatment and gum care help to prevent further spread.

Moderate Periodontitis

In this stage, periodontitis advances and causes the formation of deep gaps between the teeth and gums. The pathology accumulates in these gaps and attacks the gingival tissues and bones, causing extreme destruction.

Severe Periodontitis

Severe periodontitis is an advanced intense phase that causes the already damaged tissues supporting bone tissues to deteriorate excessively, resulting in permanent loss of teeth. It can lead to the development of mouth cancer is likely to happen or cause damage to the body's health and cause diseases such as heart failure and stroke.

In conclusion, understanding these stages helps you to take the necessary steps to stop progress and prevent further damage. If you are experiencing any of the above signs, visit us for suitable dental solutions.
